When Intelligence Still Mattered

Albert Einstein was, and still is, the poster boy for intelligence. In fact, his name has been used in daily language almost as a synonym for “genius.”

His scientific achievements have been plentiful, and to enumerate them all would take an article significantly longer than this one.

But of course, perhaps his most famous one would be the Theory of Relativity along with that famous mass-energy equivalence equation (E=mc2). His work was critical in our understanding of the time-space frame and all that this entailed.

Nowadays, there seems to be an assault (whether deliberate or not) against intelligence, where ignorance is celebrated and #smartshaming has been spreading, where scientific fact is questioned not with peer-reviewed scientific evidence but with “alternative opinions” based on unsubstantiated claims and outright lies, all for whatever gains they seek to achieve.

Thus, it is even more imperative to remember the lessons of Einstein and his peers: that intelligence, that the scientific method, that smarts, that brains… these matter.

These matter a lot in a world where the growing movement of ignorance is leading us into a dark path of death and destruction.

Einstein would not be happy.

So fight against ignorance. Learn from the master.

Happy birthday, Einstein!
