What A Rat

by on Aug.24, 2016, under Geeky

Huwag kang paimportante.

Hindi porke’t naisipan kong lapitan ka at subukang mahuli ang loob mo ay papahirapan mo na ako. Wala kang karapatang magwala tapos aakitin mo uli ako. Hindi ka naman kaaya-aya. Mukha kang dagang kanal.

More Boom Boom Pow

by on Aug.23, 2016, under Film & TV

Apparently, Michael Bay wants to destroy our eardrums once again… one last time.

Oh, who am I kidding? Despite giving the third movie a 6 out of 10, I still watched 2014’s Dinobot-infused installment. And I know that, because of my love for the Transformers, I will watch this in 2017.

One Degree of Separation

by on Aug.22, 2016, under Film & TV

Almost four years ago, I met this awesome icon of Philippine Cinema during a screening of Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay in SM Megamall.

I’m a fan and won’t be ashamed to say it.

No, hordes of people were not flocking to see her – aside from me, only a few cinemagoers here and there approached the elderly woman who gamely posed with us.

No, the screening was just a normal screening. It wasn’t one of fanfare nor was it a premiere of any sort. She was there on her own, it seemed, likely interested to see the turn-out (the cinema ended up about 20% full).

Remembering A Hero

by on Aug.21, 2016, under Society

imageNo amount of black propaganda or foolish attempts at historical revisionism will ever change the fact that Ninoy Aquino was a true hero of the sovereign Filipino people.

He was just one of the many victims of Martial Law, that atrocity that fools deign to underplay or – even worse – deny.

And yes, there were many victims. Tens of thousdands, in fact: tens of thousands of Filipinos tortured, raped, killed, or who simply vanished without a trace.

Shirtless and Spanish

by on Aug.20, 2016, under Film & TV, Queer

I kind of feel dirty for lusting after this gorgeous Spanish actor while I watched him play a saint in Ignacio De Loyola just last week.

But seriously: just look at him.

And it doesn’t help that Andreas Muñoz spent a good part of the film shirtless.

Screencaps of which I have not seen on the internet.

Sacrilege!

Ah, well, thankfully, I’m not Catholic.

Acadumbic

by on Aug.18, 2016, under Snark, Society

Because there is no shortage of stupidity in any field, today I present to you a fine example of idiocy in the “academe.” I actually hesitate to call it the “academe” by sheer virtue of how utterly moronic this is, but all right, let’s accept the technicality.

On one hand, I could almost respect a (private) school’s right to ban whatever they want to…

Down Where It’s Wetter

by on Aug.17, 2016, under Film & TV, Geeky

Last week, we got treated to two things Aquaman-related vis-a-vis the DC Extended Universe (a.k.a. the DC Movieverse).

First, we got news regarding the upcoming Aquaman movie (upcoming as in two years away upcoming: 2018). We finally got a confirmation of the villain, and it will be Black Manta.

Birth of the Goddess

by on Aug.16, 2016, under Music & Theater, Queer

I’ve already said quite a lot about the one and only goddess, the living legend, a true diva and icon – and how much she has inspired me throughout the decades.

So today, I will keep it simple, celebrate, and just say…

Did you know that there is a Refugee Olympic Team in Rio this year?

That’s right.

From a pool of 43 candidates, the IOC selected ten athletes (five from South Sudan, two from Congo, two from Syria, and one from Ethiopia) to compete under the Olympic flag with country code Refugee Olympic Team.
