2017 cannot come fast enough.
Not only did a glorious new Wonder Woman image appear…
War, Luck, and Some Curry

Just because it’s been a busy week for me (and damn, it’s not even halfway through), I’m just going to leave a couple of music videos for your pleasure.
First up is one from Culture Club’s concert in Manila last Saturday night. I’ll review the event soon (spoiler alert: it was awesome!), but for now, enjoy this great song which they themselves aren’t fond of but which I love. Also, it’s still pretty relevant for the times.

Peter Vincent: How did you get in here?
Charley Brewster: Well security is a little lax since everybody got their throat torn out.

Tomorrow, You Will Awaken

Yetta: Read me my horoscope.
Fran: Oh, OK. Ah, “Scorpio. Tomorrow, you will awaken…”
Yetta: [excitedly] Whoo-hoo!
– The Nanny, Season 5 Episode 9
She will always be one of the best and most hilarious grandmas on TV other than the Golden Girls.
Have a good sleep, Yetta. You may no longer awaken tomorrow, but you deserve the well-earned rest.
Don’t smoke too much in heaven.

Mind Your Own Closet
by allancarreon on Jun.11, 2016, under Film & TV, Geeky, Queer, Snark
I won’t lie and say that there are no closet cases that irritate me. I’m not perfect, and there are certain types I hold in disdain. They fall into two categories:
- The closet cases who compensate for it by being homophobic and are assholes towards other gay people. These closet cases, in my opinion, deserve a lot of rightful shaming for being vile hypocrites.
- The closet cases who use unsuspecting women as beards in order to give off the illusion that they are straight. Often, this type of relationship results in major pain for the woman involved, and in some cases, can also lead to abuse. (I’m 50/50 on closet cases who date women who know the truth and are willing parties in order to help cover up for the guy; I guess that depends on the situation.)
Because Anderson Cooper always deserves space.

I never get tired of watching Anderson Cooper, who recently celebrated his 49th birthday but doesn’t look a day over thirty. Those are some mighty good genes.
Not only is he Ivy League smart, not only is he unafraid to call out the bullshit of armchair journalists or politicians, not only is he a Vanderbilt who relies on his own merits and not the family legacy (which, by the way, his mother – the Gloria Vanderbilt? just awesome!), not only is he an inspiration for the gay community…
Lollipops and Roses at Burong Talangka

Two years ago, during the first Write Here, Write Now workshop with Jessica Zafra, we were given an optional exercise. I don’t remember the exact instructions, but I found myself writing an entire film sequence where the dialogue was composed purely of Filipino movie titles.
I don’t recall ever submitting it. Finding and re-reading it now, I thank the great literary deities that my mentor never got to see it.
Misleading Association
by allancarreon on Oct.28, 2015, under Film & TV, Snark
For the record, to address some insinuations of the grossly misinformed, no. I don’t support Tito Sotto and his politics just because he is associated with Eat Bulaga.
Why? Because I’m educated and smart enough to distinguish and separate his showbiz associations from his political affiliations and beliefs.
