Retrofitting Wonder Woman
by allancarreon on Mar.22, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky, Queer
Now here’s a Wonder Woman movie I would not mind watching, too.
Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot just absolutely nail the character. I wish Lynda would appear in the DCEU at some point. Come on, Warner and DC! You know that would be gold.

Because Neil Gaiman is a legend.
Tale As Old As Time

As expected, Disney’s live action remake of their animated classic Beauty and the Beast is as magical as the original. Although the new film is quite faithful to the first one, it still does have a few changes, primarily in order to flesh out the backstories and motivations of the characters. Some new songs were added along the way to enhance the story beats and the character arcs. All these resulted in a richer, deeper, and in many ways slightly darker approach to a classic tale that’s, well, as old as time.

Can you feel the excitement? I can. It’s positively electric.

An oldie that never gets old and is still a goodie.
This was nothing short of genius.
Kong-gregation
by allancarreon on Mar.13, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky
Kong: Skull Island on the surface offers nothing significantly new besides the tropes already associated with the franchise: man versus nature, man as the actual antagonist, man getting involved in something he should not be involved in, misunderstood and ultimately sympathetic giant ape, woman develops emotional connection with ape.
But it does have a very delightful and engaging advantage.
Tom Hiddleston’s biceps.
Well, okay, that’s one.
And Brie Larson’s photojournalist is a woman who finally dresses sensibly for the expedition she’s joining. No high heels while running from prehistoric creatures, that’s for sure.
Absolutely Wonderful

Because Wonder Woman is less than three months away, it’s about time they dropped a new trailer. The previous two trailers had just left me thirsting for so much more, and in the last couple of months there have been a lot of occasions of disappointingly false alarms about a new trailer supposed to be dropping “soon.”
Logan Runs

It was bound to happen.
Hugh Jackman, despite what we want to believe, is not getting any younger, and he’s been playing Wolverine for nearly two decades since he debuted the role in the first X-Men movie back in 2000. The time would come that he needed to retire the role, and the time is now.
And what a time it is!
Rather than just let Hugh “silently go into the night” or replace him unceremoniously in a reboot, they let him go out with a bang by concluding his story properly: through a film inspired by the comic book Old Man Logan, a fitting conclusion given how both film and book basically celebrate the twilight years of Wolverine.
Evil Ends. We Think.

Resident Evil, the film series at least if not the games, finally comes to an end (as far as we are promised this time) with the recent release of the sixth installment, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
It’s been around for fifteen years, this franchise, and while it has had its ups and downs, it remains a guilty pleasure for me. Despite certain installments being less than stellar and prone to some mediocre moviemaking, the entire saga just compelled me to watch every single one of them on the big screen. Aside from having a fun premise, it features kickass characters – primarily women – and cool action.
I swear, Milla Jovovich will continue to live a wealthy and secure life long after this is over. And she deserves to.
The Jack of Comics

He was one of comics’ most influential personalities. After all, it wasn’t everyday you get to co-create a characters like Captain America, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, X-Men, and several other Marvel properties.
However, as more of a DC fan, I will always remember Jack Kirby for his creation of Challengers of the Unknown (undeniably a precursor to the Fantastic Four) as well as the Fourth World characters a.k.a. The New Gods.
Truth to tell, these may not have been as commercially successful as one would have hoped. Still, despite several failed series, the Fourth World characters remain an overarching presence within the DC Multiverse. This cannot be more felt than in the popular and malevolent Darkseid (i.e. He Who Was Ripped Off By Thanos), who has arguably become DC’s primary archvillain – in the comics, in animated features, and soon, in the DC movie extended universe.
