Hungry For More

Just as I was finishing my article on Tabi Po the other day (as I normally write my posts in advance), I saw the official Tabi Po Facebook Page announce a contest! Talk about serendipity. They were having a launch party for the TV show, and creator Mervin Malonzo was opening up slots for interested fans through a contest. As this year seems to be my lucky year for winning online contests, I jumped in and gave it a try.
And what do you know? I got in.
Crazy Dogs
by allancarreon on Oct.20, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky, Literature
I have been a fan of Mervin Malonzo’s Tabi Po graphic novels, a series about aswang (which, in his world, derives from asong buang, i.e. crazy dog) for some time now.
I only came upon this by chance, actually. I’d been looking for more local comics beyond Carlo Vergara’s Zaturnnah and Trese by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. By fate, I saw the first Malonzo’s beautifully rendered book, I think either in a bookstore or in a comicon.
Pitchforks for Justice
by allancarreon on Oct.19, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky
As Justice League‘s opening date draws nearer, and with the recent full trailer released, more and more TV spots and promotional material are coming out. It’s absolutely nerdgasmic, and with the film less than a month away, I could only eat up as much as I could to satisfy my unabashed eagerness. Times like these make me wonder why patience is a virtue.
Bring it on, DC.
A New Pacific
by allancarreon on Oct.16, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky
And so they’ve recently released a full trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising. It definitely looks bigger and more outrageous (in a good way) than the first. I am loving it.
Someone please bring back Charlie Hunnam for a future third movie. Life will be elevated.
Justice is served.

Let’s take a break today from all the Persian goodness to look at the latest Justice League trailer drop. And of course, it is iconic. We also finally get to see some Cavill, but no Superman (just watch, it’s not spoiler-y what I said).
With the film out next month, the PR for this much-awaited live action coming together of DC legends (plus Cyborg, heh) will surely be cranking up a notch in the next few weeks. We’re in for a treat. I’m giddy with excitement.
Kontra-GaMe

The first time I watched Kontra-GaPi was as a student in Ateneo. I honestly can’t recall if it was in late grade school or earlt high school, but I distinctly remember how amazed I was at their talent and how much they were promoting native Filipino music and instrumentation.
I’m glad they’re still around, as I found out recently when they did a cover of the Game of Thrones theme for cable to promote the recently-concluded season.
Helm’s Deeper

The Lord of the Rings trilogy of films will always be one of my favorite franchises of all time, if not my favorite. The books, of course, are even more fantastic.
I always felt that The Two Towers was robbed of that year’s best picture Oscar, and although the academy made up for it the following year with The Return of the King, The Two Towers also deserved the accolade more than Chicago.
Terrific Pacific
by allancarreon on Sep.25, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky
Pacific Rim was a sleeper hit of 2013, and its long-awaited sequel is finally coming in March 2018. My only major complaint is that Charlie Hunnam is nowhere to be found (due to scheduling conflicts), but I’ll make do with the also-gorgeous Scott Eastwood. John Boyega’s also cool, as proven in Star Wars, and Rinko Kikuchi’s returning, to boot.
Meanwhile, please, producers. Someone get the right to Voltes V and Daimos. A Godzilla crossover would also not be frowned upon.
Trek Back In Time
by allancarreon on Sep.23, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky
Discover the past of the future as a new crew comes to life in this upcoming prequel series, set about a decade before the original series. It’s scheduled to be released tomorrow, 24 September 2017 (US time), via the new CBS All Access streaming service
Are you looking forward to it? I am.
The Kingsmen may have to wait.
by allancarreon on Sep.20, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky
Kingsman: The Golden Circle finally opens today in the Philippines (along with the UK and other territories). Unfortunately, due to conflicting schedules, I might be able to watch it towards the end of next week. Bummer. Still, we may have some time tonight before we fly out for a vacay. We’ll see.
But regardless, Taron Egerton deserves all my patience. If not tonight, then I will definitely get to see you next week, babe.
In the meantime, here’s the second trailer to tide me (and anyone else) over.
Update: so we did manage to find time early Wednesday evening to watch it. Will post a review next time as there’s a lot going on as we prep for travel.
