Shape of Thrones

Because, like the creators of this Star Wars gem, some people really just have a whoe lot of free time on their hands.
And thank goodness for that, or else we wouldn’t have this other gem.
Legendary Len
by allancarreon on Sep.12, 2017, under Geeky, Literature
Len Wein was a comic book legend.
I mean, he only co-created Swamp Thing and this little-known character called Wolverine.
He was an accomplished comic creator, both as writer and editor, and won multiple awards. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2008.
Over at Marvel, Len was instrumental in reviving the X-Men in the early 70s with artist Dave Cockrum, co-creating Storm, Nightcrawler, and Colossus. Without their work, the later Claremont run would have been nothing. The X-Men, as we know it now, would have never come to pass without Len. He also wrote for Daredevil, The Incredible Hulk, The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor, Fantastic Four, and Marvel Team-Up.

Etta remembers.

“No one looks better fighting in a tiara — although I haven’t had a go yet, so let’s not compare too soon.”
Etta, oh moxie-filled Etta! I hope they find a way to bring you to the sequels, too. Preferably using the golden lasso in those ways you’re thinking of. So very 40s Wondie, tee hee.
Wonder Woman is out today on digital, although the iTunes one will be released on September 4th (I’ve pre-ordered, obv). Blu-ray is out on September 19th.
The Elongated Man

I cannot say I’m a big fan of DC’s Elongated Man a.k.a. Ralph Dibny. While I like him enough, especially when he and his wife Sue were with Justice League Europe, I always preferred Plastic Man in the strechy super-hero game.
Ralph had already been mentioned as an easter egg on CW’s The Flash TV show, and given that he was Barry’s best friend in the comics, it was only a matter of time before they bring him in. And this past week, they announced that they’ve cast the character for a recurring Season 4 role, and boy did they get it right (visually, at least – let’s see how they actually write him).
Memories of Maritess

Maritess will never, ever grow old. And with Justice League coming out later this year, it’s just but awesome for me to dig this out of YouTube – oh, and for the record, I first saw this years before YouTube ever even existed.
Go, go, Maritess! Happy Friday, everyone.
Rowwwrling!
by allancarreon on Jul.31, 2017, under Geeky, Literature
Today is the 52nd birthday of the Goddess of the Potterverse and Queen of Twitter, she who regularly puts the likes of Orange Hitler and Piers Morgan in their proper place with zingers so sharp they’ll bleed until the year 3243.
But of course, J.K. Rowling’s talents go way beyond decimating man-child trolls. She has earned her place in pop culture as well as literature with, who else, Harry Potter and his magical world. She is one awesome and tough lady, deserving of a lot of respectful roars in honorable salute!
Happy birthday, J.K.!
