Tone Deaf
by allancarreon on Aug.30, 2017, under My Life, Society
So as of yesterday afternoon, Uber Philippines is back in business, having succumbed to the extortion of the LTFRB.
As a follow-up to the ongoing TNV saga, here we have the Spectacular Shriveled Man of the LTFRB showing just how truly tone deaf he is.
Institutionalized Extortion
by allancarreon on Aug.28, 2017, under My Life, Snark, Society
The consumer in me will be happy if Uber goes back online this coming week given that the insidious LTFRB has already given the recommended fine for lifting the one-month suspension.
You know, just a mere and very sane 190 Million Fucking Pesos.
But the responsible citizen in me thinks they should give Shriveled Man and his sidekick Nostril Girl the middle finger and just serve the remainder of the suspension period. There’s only about two weeks left anyway, and if that’s what it costs to defy institutionalized extortion, I can – as a consumer – live with it.
Dedz Na Si Jess, Part 2

Despite the unrelenting hilarity throughout Patay Na Si Jesus, it must be noted that this is smart humor. No, this is not a movie that’s all slapstick and puns and repetitive shallowness (I shan’t name names). This is a movie where humor is intelligent and is derived from situation and circumstance, not from tired and forced jokes that just make their way into the dialogue without really being earned. In this movie, we have real people who find laughter in real situations; we end up laughing with them and not at them because we actually see ourselves in all of these characters.
And so we also empathize with them.
What About Us?

Pink is back, and once again, she proves that she is greater than many of her peers as well as the current new generation of pop/rock artists. Not only does she come up with a very stirring and passionate new song, but she highlights some very relevant themes around minorities in this day and age. Absolutely amazing.
Delaying Tactics
by allancarreon on Aug.20, 2017, under My Life, Queer, Society
Despite having been scheduled for interpellation numerous times, the Anti-Discrimination Bill still remains pending in the legislative.
And why is this so?
Certain members of the Senate have deliberately caused the delays.
One particular senator, in fact, has even had the gall to proclaim that he is an ally of the LGBT community. He used us for PR by posting on his Facebook, during Pride Month, that he supported us. And yet, to this very day, every time the bill is scheduled for interpellation, he leaves and/or disappears. The most recent one, I’m told, is that he disappeared but was discovered to have just been in the lounge. Such a blatant display of abuse of power is disgusting.

… than their president.
It’s 2017. Nazism has no place in the here and now. There’s a reason why World War 2 happened and why the world shut down Hitler.
Yes, there is a wrong and right side of history. Don’t find yourself on the wrong one.

The Tigers of Asia

Fifty years ago today, five nations in Southeast Asia united to promote growth of the economy, social progress, and regional stability. Now, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a ten-member rising power that’s known for progress, diplomacy, amd goodwill.

Can this couple be any more adorable?
Also, there’s really just something cute (and sexy) when a gorgeous foreigner speaks in Tagalog with a funny accent. I have no idea why. It just… is.
Death of Humanity
by allancarreon on Jul.25, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky, Society
To echo my mentor Jessica, War for the Planet of the Apes is perhaps one of the most human films of 2017 so far. In contrast to its predecessor – where humans were caught in a power struggle between two factions of apes – this new film in the series showcases apes caught in a conflict between two factions of military men.
Despite the simian nature of its primary protagonists, they are perhaps the most human characters of the entire movie. Conversely, and ironically, it is the human characters who are ultimately devoid of humanity. Like the rest of this film series, the movie is a commentary on human nature and what makes us tick – and what makes these simians who have become humanlike tick.
