A Very Posh Birthday

by on Apr.17, 2017, under Film & TV, Music & Theater, My Life, Queer, Travel & Culture

Despite all the criticism that she was the Spice Girl who sang the least, among other things, Victoria Beckham has always been and will always be my favorite Spice Girl. Even when she was still Victoria Adams, prior to her marriage to that gorgeous soccer player, she fascinated me: the classy style, the smouldering looks, the occasional smile, the cheeky deadpan humor. Victoria has a sophistication that I adore, one which I believe hid an ultimately down-to-earth lady (no matter what others thought).

And her singing voice? It may not be as powerful or polished as Emma’s or the Melanies’, but I always liked the quality of her voice in the same way that I love the bedroom-y, husky voice of Westlife’s Nicky Byrne (another “underdog” in his own group, love ya, babe!).

Island Workout

Seriously, I’d be running towards him as opposed to fleeing. What manner of mentally-imbalanced person runs away from Pietro Boselli? Sick! Sicksicksick.

Coco Loco, Part 2

Coco Loco, Part 1

So today I continue with my thoughts on Coco Beach Resort in Puerto Galera. As I mentioned yesterday, the gang decided to have a quick overnight getaway in the midst of all this wretched summer heat, and Coco Beach was definitely a great place to choose since I’d been wanting to try it out for the longest time.

And yes, there are definitely a lot of good things about the resort and its beautiful surroundings, but then there are also… the bad and the ugly.

Coco Loco, Part 1

by on Apr.11, 2017, under My Life, Travel & Culture

I’d been to Puerto Galera many times since the late 90s. In all those times, except for the first time which was a Sabang trip for my college Invertebrate Zoology class, I’d always gone to White Beach. Admittedly, White Beach probably isn’t as nice and fun as it once was, but I still did return again and again.

This year, on a (relative) whim and in trying to find a quick summer getaway over the weekend, we decided for a good old reliable but with a twist: Puerto Galera, but on a different beach. Now, I’ve always wanted to try Coco Beach, so with no dissent from the gang, we booked it. Luckily, considering it was summer and we were going on the Saturday before Holy Week, there was still one room available that could accommodate the six of us, .

And so it was that Bj, Norlan, Andre, Gilbert, Dan and I made our way to Galera again after a long time of not going.

It was a fairly good decision, sans the earthquake of course.

Red Nose Roundup

by on Mar.24, 2017, under Film & TV, Travel & Culture

Last week, as a precursor to the UK’s Red Nose Day 2017, videos of three celebrities posing as British Airways agents and pranking several travelers in Heathrow Airport were released. Those three celebs happen to be some of my faves: gay Olympic diver Tom Daley, Spice Girl Emma Bunton, and Little Britain‘s David Walliams.

(And if you’ve never watched Little Britain, shame on you.)

Now these are must watch hidden cam pranks! To be completely honest, Tom was not that funny except for a couple of beats, but he was still absolutely adorable. Emma was very funny, especially when she would randomly infuse the conversations with random Spice lyrics and the customers would still be so clueless and unaware. David Walliams is of course a comedic genius and was just  hilarious AF, especially whenever he just deadpanned his way through things.

Same Same…

… but still different.

If ever I decide to migrate out of the Philippines, Thailand is definitely one of the primary options (aside from Colombia, Bulgaria, and Australia). The culture is so similar, the food is so awesome, and it already does feel like home.

I’m A Barbie Girl.

Barbie’s debut in 1959

Happy birthday, Barbara Millicent Roberts!

Golly gee whiz, you don’t look 58 years old, darling.

You look as young as you did when you were first introduced to the world (in blond and brunette versions because: of course) at the American International Toy Fair in New York back in 1959.

You’ve had your fair share of controversies: from supposedly being an unrealistic standard for little girls to aspire to, to being targeted for prior lack of multi-culturality, to – heck – even having temporarily broken up with Kenneth Carson because: priorities.

And yet, here you still are, radiant and stunning, undoubtedly an icon in your own right.
