Sweet Home Alabama

You did well this week, Alabama.
The Spaghetti Tree was a warning.

Back in 1957, BBC pulled an April Fools Day prank of epic proportions. It’s all about where spaghetti comes from, and…
… well, you just have to see it for yourselves.
You would think any sane person would realize this was a joke.
The Unqualified
by allancarreon on Nov.18, 2017, under Snark, Society
It’s become glaringly obvious that the grossly unqualified are invading politics and government. Take this cretin, for example: Trump’s pick for the USA’s environmental advosor.
Simon & Garfunkel would approve.

Sometimes, satire really bites with hilarious (and yet sad) truths.
And Then It Got Darker

Sixteen years ago, the world changed.
I was in Manila, of course. We were celebrating the birthday of a friend over dinner in the Katipunan area. There was a TV suddenly broadcasting the terrible news as it happened. We were in Manila, but we felt the terror half a world away. When I got home later after midnight, I got glued to the TV again, watching the horror of the aftermath further unfold.

… than their president.
It’s 2017. Nazism has no place in the here and now. There’s a reason why World War 2 happened and why the world shut down Hitler.

Throwback: Misogyny Speech
by allancarreon on Apr.19, 2017, under Society
She may have been a polarizing political figure, but former Australian Prime Minister – and the first female head of state of the country – Julia Gillard was at least on point almost five years ago when she gave a scathing, powerful, and historic speech condemning misogyny and sexism.
It remains relevant to this day and needs to be reflected upon by all.
Here are highlights of the epic take down of a misogynist.
Too Close To Reality
by allancarreon on Mar.08, 2017, under Film & TV, Society
Seriously, people.
Hollywood has a long history of portraying evil and/or lecherous fictional heads of state and world leaders. How many evil Russian and Eastern European dictators have we seen on film and on TV? How about corrupt South American warlords? Even US leaders have not been spared, as the villainous VPOTUS was a key element in Iron Man 3, for example. Half the world leaders in Kingsman: The Secret Service sold the world out to mass death and destruction.
Colossus Chained

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
