Absolutely Wonderful

Because Wonder Woman is less than three months away, it’s about time they dropped a new trailer. The previous two trailers had just left me thirsting for so much more, and in the last couple of months there have been a lot of occasions of disappointingly false alarms about a new trailer supposed to be dropping “soon.”

Wonder Woman Vs. Wolverine: who wins?
Absolutely legit.
Wonder. Power. Courage.

So they just dropped the latest Wonder Woman trailer, and it is awesome!
Not only do we get more Wondie goodness, we also get to see more of Elena Anaya…
… and I’m pretty positive that, yes, she is classic WW baddie Dr. Poison. The gender-bending villain might seem odd to the casual viewer, but long-time Wonder Woman fans would know that Dr. Poison is actually a very appropriate choice; if I recall correctly, she was the first costumed Man’s World villain at WW faced in the Golden Age, initially appearing in Sensation Comics #2. With the film set in World War I instead of World War II, Dr. Poison also fits right in because modern chemical warfare became widely utilized during the first war.

Here is the latest publicity shot of Wonder Woman in next year’s Justice League.
Stunning, isn’t she? To think she’s 75 years old.

Today is Wonder Woman Day.

Recently, current Wonder Woman comic book writer Greg Rucka (who also had an acclaimed run on a prior volume of the book in the 2000s) gave an interview wherein he basically confirmed that Wonder Woman is “queer.”
Of course, this made the rounds of social media, with a fairly good number of people praising the revelation. It is, after all, the natural progression for a character who has been seen as an icon for the LGBT community for the longest time and whose very roots are intimately tied to queerness.
As expected, however, a predictable subset of society that is ignorant at best and homophobic at worst also had their rant say. Negative reactions I’ve read ranged from the comparatively-mellow-yet-simplistic, “But she’s always been straight!” to the hysterical-and-simultaneously-moronic, “Why are we promoting porn in comic books for kids? Think of the children!”

So this past weekend, during the San Diego Comic-Con, DC dropped several trailers for its TV and movie franchises, along with lots of surprises for its comics and video game businesses. Thousands of fans wet themselves with joy at all the goodies that DC has given us.
Well, news about the CW’s long-runing, highly successful shared TVverse of Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and (now) Supergirl is always great, especially since they dropped trailers for the upcoming seasons of the first three. More previews of Injustice 2 were also shown (including the first look at the somewhat mannish IJ2 Wonder Woman as well as Blue Beetle 3).
However, the awesome DC movie trailers from Warner Bros. eclipsed all of that.
Chris and Chris

I have newfound respect (and love) for both Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine.
Both A-list leading Hollywood men, they willingly accepted work as second fiddle to women.
Hemsworth is currently in the Ghostbusters remake/reboot, which has stirred some controversy because of its all-female lineup. When the cast was announced last year, misogynists everywhere came out of the woodwork to decry the film without having even seen it – pretending that the anger is borne out of the “raping of their childhoods” (seriously) when in fact their issue is that four women not Angelina Jolie or Milla Jovovich would be kicking asses in an action/adventure film.
